History, nature and places to go
Gilpin Cottage
The house was built in 1914 as ‘Gilpin Cottage’. In the 1940’s it was renamed 'Shepherds Rock’. Whether the ‘rock’ was for one shepherd or more, we do not know - the search of its apostrophe continues! The 2024 renovation was all about creating a sustainable and tranquil home, furnished with skills and materials from the north of England.
'The Gilpin Annex' was built in 2024, with two bedrooms and 'Jack and Jill' shower room.
Owls
If you are lucky, in the early morning or at dusk you might see one or more owls, hunting over the field which surrounds Shepherds’ Rock.
